An Important Message from Dr. Tamu Lucero, Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools

Dr. Tamu Lucero, Superintendent of Schools
Stamford Public Schools Staff and Families,
First, I want to thank each of you individually, and collectively, for all you have done to make our transition to distance learning during our unprecedented districtwide Stamford Public Schools (SPS) closure, due to COVID-19 concerns, as seamless as possible.  As with any transition, we know that there has been, and will continue to be, challenges along the way. I know that as part of a learning organization, each of us will continue to support and learn from one another ,over the coming weeks, to minimize these challenges. And, I appreciate all of your efforts.
The district will continue to provide as much support and access to resources as we can. Starting today, we have created a Quick Link on the home page of the District website, Resources During Closure, where you will find access to educational as well as social/emotional resources.
As you may already be aware, Governor Lamont has ordered all Connecticut public schools to remain closed through Tuesday, March 31. Given that our district is already scheduled to be closed the following week (April 6-10) for Spring break, schools will now be closed through April 10, and are scheduled to reopen no sooner than Monday, April 13. Please know that every day between now and April 3 will be a Distance Learning School Day. April 6 through 10, will remain Spring Break days.
In the meantime, I encourage you all to follow the advice of the experts in keeping yourself and your family safe. Additionally, helping children cope with anxiety concerning COVID-19 can be difficult.  Since young people watch the reactions of the adults in their lives, it is important that you take stock of your personal anxiety levels and be conscious of how this is communicated to children.  Remind them that you are committed to their safety and well-being. Let them know that you are willing and able to listen to their concerns. Visit our website for links to resources to help you have those conversations.
Remember, meals are available between 10 a.m. and noon, at all our schools and other community locations, which are listed on the website.
