SCOPES is looking for your help

Parent advocate and mom Jackie Pioli has been named the new chairwoman of Stamford Coalition of Parents Expecting Success (SCOPES). The group is a committee of the Stamford Parent Teacher Council that services as a support network and community resource on issues of special education.

She has sent the following message to stakeholders interested in participating in SCOPES:

As an advocate, I have worked collaboratively with public school districts from Stamford to Shelton, and one thing has become painfully clear.  Most SPED parents don’t know what their rights are, nor what their children are entitled to.  I believe SCOPES is in the perfect position to liaise with local PTO’s and empower parents through education to effectively advocate for their children.

In return for just a few hours of your time, we can develop SCOPES into a vital part of the Stamford Educational community, and change countless lives for the better.  Let’s fix what’s wrong in special education, and help make what works, work better!

Will you help SCOPES move in a fresh new direction?

Lets coordinate an informal gathering to discuss how SCOPES can improve special education. I am eager to get started, and there is much to do.
