Join the Box Tops for Education Classroom Challenge

Box tops must be submitted by October 26th to be included in the classroom competition.

Did you know that you can earn funds for Stillmeadow by clipping Box Tops from items you buy every day?  The Box Tops for Education Classroom Challenge is October 15-26.  Submit your Box Tops using a collection sheet and send extra Box Tops in a plastic baggie. Be sure to include your child’s name and teacher’s name on all sheets and/or baggies in order to receive credit towards the competition.

The classroom from each grade that turns in the most Box Tops during this period will win a special prize!

Halloween Hop is October 26: Sign Up Today!

A “spooktacular” costume party is coming to Stillmeadow on Friday, October 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  The cost is $5 per person and advance registration is required.

Complete and return the registration form to your child’s teacher as soon as possible!

After School Enrichment Registration Deadline is This Friday – September 14

Time is running out to sign up for the many after-school enrichment activities taking place at Stillmeadow this fall. The schedule has something for every child, including art, chess, coding, cooking, science, sewing and sports classes.

  • The registration deadline is Friday, September 14 at 5 pm.
  • Registration is low for some classes. Please register ASAP. Classes will be cancelled if we cannot meet minimum enrollment requirements.
  • Classes begin the week of September 24 and conclude the week of December 17. See website for exact dates.
  • Refer to the website for important program information, including: class schedules and descriptions, registration tips, and answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Scholarships are available for qualifying students.

  • YOU control the information included for your family and can update your information anytime.
  • Search the directory by name (parent, student, teacher) or grade.
  • Directory is secure, password-protected, and available only to current Stillmeadow families.

IMPORTANT:  Families that were listed in the directory last year must update their child’s information for the 2018-19 school year.  Once you have confirmed your child’s information (grade and teacher), your listing will be re-activated and you will have full access to the directory.

Tickets Available for Stillmeadow Day at Yankee Stadium on September 16

There are a limited number of tickets still available to see the Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, September 16.  Game time is 1:05 pm.

Tickets, which are priced at $30 each are located in Sections 207-208.

Stillmeadow Fun Run and Family Picnic is April 27

Get Ready for a Great Party!  The Stillmeadow PFO is hosting an all-school Fun Run and Family Picnic on Friday, April 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
  • Admission is $5 per person and includes the Fun Run, games/activities, and photo booth.
  • Pack a picnic or purchase food from one of the local food trucks participating in this event.
  • Bid on great auction items including teacher experiences and goods/services from local businesses.
  • Fun Run t-shirts, silly string, and color blast powder will be available for pre-order.
  • Purchase a personalized Fun Run sign to congratulate a student or say thanks to a teacher.
  • All proceeds benefit Stillmeadow Elementary School.

Attend Multicultural Night on March 26 – Free Event for Stillmeadow Families

Please join us for Multicultural Night on Monday,March 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm , when more than two dozen families will share their cultural and ethnic traditions through food, fashion, music, and other activities.
This is a free event open to all Stillmeadow Families. Advance registration required.

Reading Olympics Recap

Thanks to everyone who supported reading at home by encouraging your children to participate in the Stillmeadow Reading Olympics.
More than 200 Stillmeadow Students completed an Olympics Reading Challenge between Monday, February 26 and Wednesday, February 28. Students received medals on Friday, March 2 and will be recognized on a Reading Olympics bulletin board.
Congratulations to the following classes with the highest participation rates in the Reading Olympics:
• Mrs. Bronson (Third Grade): 78%
• Mrs. Papastathis (First Grade): 67%
• Mrs. Exias (Second Grade): 65%
• Ms. Balch (Third Grade): 65%
• Mrs. Cammarota (Fourth Grade): 62%
Thanks also to the many families who supported continued literacy enrichment programming at Stillmeadow through a classroom donation. We raised nearly $2,500 that will be used to fund special events such as the recent author visit from Kara LaReau.

Stillmeadow Reading Olympics Begins Today

The Stillmeadow Reading Olympics begins today and concludes on Wednesday, February 28.
The Reading Olympics – which is taking place in conjunction with Literacy Week – is an opportunity for you to support reading at home, which research shows improves academic outcomes. The goal is to have every student complete an at-home reading challenge during the Reading Olympics.

Reading Olympics information was sent home in student folders last week. Here’s what you need to do to help your child be a Reading Olympics Champion:

  • Plan for and attain an Olympic Reading Goal using the challenge sheet and reading log available here.
  • Return the completed reading log to school on Thursday, March 1.
  • Consider sponsoring your child’s classroom with a donation that will help us provide continued literacy enrichment activities for your child and their classmates. Complete and return this sponsorship form to school by Thursday, March 1.
Students who complete a reading challenge will earn a Reading Olympics medal. All children who participate will have their name displayed on a Reading Olympics Bulletin Board at Stillmeadow. The classroom in each grade with the most participation will have honorable mention on the Reading Olympics bulletin board.

Stillmeadow will celebrate Literacy Week and Dr. Seuss’s Birthday from  Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 2.
Following are the daily themes for Literacy Week.
Children are encouraged to join in the fun by dressing up based on each day’s theme.
Monday, February 26: “Cat in the Hat” Day (Wear a Hat)
Tuesday, February 27: “I Can Read with My Eyes Shut” Day (Wear a Shirt You Can Read)
Wednesday, February 28: “Green Eggs and Clothes” Day (Wear Something Green)
Thursday, March 1 : “Fox in Socks” Day (Wear Crazy Socks)
Friday, March 2: Literacy Day! Dress as your favorite story character (note: does not have to be a Dr. Seuss character)

Participate in Stillmeadow’s 2nd Annual Multicultural Night

Stillmeadow is a vibrant, ethnically- and culturally-diverse community.  Multicultural Night is a wonderful way to share your cultural pride with Stillmeadow’s students, families, and staff.

Last year, more than 200 people attended Multicultural Night which featured food, music, games and traditional clothing from more than 20 countries!

Gertrude Hawk Chocolates Sale Begins Today

It’s time for Stillmeadow’s annual Gertrude Hawk Chocolates Fundraiser. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support enrichment programs, field trips, and other activities for Stillmeadow students.

  • Every student who sells at least one item will receive a prize.

The Stillmeadow PFO is working with Hoop Girls, Chess Wizards, Coding with Kids, Jill Lostaglio Yoga, and Clay Art Center to offer after school enrichment programs at Stillmeadow this winter.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • All classes begin in January and end by April 18.
  • Registration is open now.
  • Registration for Chess Wizards and Coding with Kids is online only.
  • Register for Clay Classes, Yoga and Hoop Girls via forms going home in student folders.
  • Registration is first come, first served.

Hoop Girls: Hoop Dance/Fitness for Grades K-5

Girls in grades K-5 will have a whirl of a time in the gym, learning Hooping Tricks and Dance moves and playing hula hoop games.

Grades: K-5 Girls.  A minimum of 8 students is required to conduct this class.
